Little Yap Yap gives an update on Southern living

So it’s been ages since I last wrote on my blog. Not sure what I’ve done since I last wrote. Hmmm, let me think. Well I worked for the police for 4 months. That was, um, interesting. The people were really nice, but my job was dull, dull, dull. So I decided to get another job. I now work for Avaya, a telecommunications company based here in Guildford. I’m a Business Analyst. What does one of those do? I’m not entirely sure to be honest. I must admit I do very little. I tend to surf the net and take long tea breaks a lot. Maybe I put together one or two reports. I also take extremely long lunch breaks. I work with a strange mix of people too. Some people I really dislike, which for me to say is quite harsh. I spend a lot of my time trying to avoid my work colleagues. I honestly can’t be arsed with them.

It’s been over a year since I moved to Guildford. It’s been a very interesting few months. Definitely lots of ups and downs. I’ve met all kinds of people. Not all good, but not all bad. I’m slowly adjusting to the Southern lifestyle. I find myself saying some words in a ‘posh’ accent. I hate when others pick up on it. I get all embarrassed.

The future : I’m going home for Christmas in a few weeks time. I can’t wait! I really need some good home cooking. It just dawned on me that I frequent my local Chinese take away way too much. I went last night and they all knew me by name, “hi Jenny”! I mean it’s not all bad - I’m always guaranteed free prawn crackers with my meal!!!

The beginning of February will see me off to Dubai and South Korea with my mate Rayhan. I have a mate who teaches in SK so we’re going to hang around with him for a week. I’m real looking forward to that.

Catch the train to Manchester. Not very exciting.

Get to the train station and get met by Net. Lovely Simon has booked us a hotel room at the Ibis across from Paradise Factory so we can enjoy a proper girlie weekend.

Throw our stuff down and get ready to go out. Meeting my mates Ian, Olly and Naj later on. Go to Odder, which used to be Zumbar. Not too busy cos the students not back from hols yet - thank f*ck! Start drinking. Ian meets us, then Olly. Few more drinks.

Carry on to Blue in the Northern Qtr. More drinks. Naj meets us. Just chat.

Naj drives us to the village where we go to Baa baas for shots. Night kind of getting hazy at this point......Naj leaves. More drinks??? Not sure now. Kind of blurry. Pizza, kebabs? All a mess now.

Back to hotel, more wine. Need sleep. Kick fellas out and promtly pass out.

Wake up. Headache. Net and I lay in bed watching Saturday kitchen. Super hungry. We want noodles! Get ready and go to China town. DISASTER!!!OH NO!!! Nothing's open yet!! What are we going to do?? We're starving!! Go to Starbucks for our coffe fix until the place opens. Coffee is actually very filling. Full now, but still want noodles.

China town open, noodle craving fulfilled.

Next, Dress shopping time!! Net shows me her 2 potential dresses for the wedding next week. We pick a dress for her. She looks lovely in it. I feel left out and decide to buy a fancy frock too. We both now have fancy frocks.

7 hours later we finish our shopping marathon and are utterly exhausted. Nap and then get ready to go out again. Decide to go for Spanish Tapas with Helen and her fella Hugh. Traipse around town to 3 different tapas places, all of which are booked out. What to do!! Where else can you go without a booking?? Rusholme of course. Taxi to Rusholme for yummy curry heaven!

After walk back to the hotel and go to bed. Rock n' Roll!!!

Rise and Shine. One last girlie thing to do before I catch my train. Make over!! We have booked a makeover at MAC. Both get properly made up. A little OTT for the time of day. Spend lots of money on make-up and then walk through town to train station. Both very self concious since we look so over done. No time to take it off cos me got a train to catch. Say our goodbyes and I spend the next 5 hours trying my best not to smear my over plastered face.
